Last Day 30 #stradaeasel challenge painting from l Last Day 30 #stradaeasel challenge painting from life has had me draw from life or paint an image in front of me every day during the month of September. No AI and no filters. Thanks to my friends Carol and Pat for the use of their Starlink so that I could post during our trip to the desert. Thank you to STRADA for this initiative to encourage artists all over the world to join in and draw, record, reflect and take in beauty around them whilst grace embraced us. I will post some more I did as I had made doubles on some days. So do keep watching. Thank you for your comments and love. It is appreciated and felt. What a blessed month this has been. Some days are harder than others and yet this one Some days are harder than others and yet this one I am grateful sailed smoothly despite the storm. I packed up my father in laws room since he passed away recently. Getting home I still had to draw live for my Day 29 #stradaeasel challenge so I chose these “everlasting “ Helichrysum agyrosphaerum paper daisies from the desert I recently visited to draw live from . They move with ease in glowing yellow, white and pink. On my page they cast a cool shadow that exudes peace. An everlasting memory, a place to be remembered, a person or paper flower so small yet survives such heat in the wilderness. Drawing these has been perfect to quieten down the soul before bed. Good night or good morning or good day, be blessed and remember to tell your loved ones you love them before you too sail on. The memory will surely be everlastingly strong and tender just like these flowers 🤗

These sketches drawn from life consisted of seeing multiple sections of the view repeated or changed in small ways until I felt all four images were expressed the feeling of our open roads here in South Africa. Trucks, tall trees, open roads and fields of many colours, lines of sunlight and dramatic cloud scapes all served for rich inspiration. Early morning crisp air greets the warm sun’s glow Early morning crisp air greets the warm sun’s glow as I draw from life for Day 27 #stradaeasel challenge. The wide horizon is tickled by the silhouetted tops of Arcacia and Shepherd Trees dotted here and there. The Dune, Blue and Small Bushman Grasses edge the Gold Ochre plains. The little birds wings illuminate with sunlight at dawn matching the cheer in their birdsong. A special gift to be here in this wilderness. Here in the desert of Botswana, facing the Mopayathulethwa Pan. These pencil crayons have been a delight to use #carandache
Day 26 #stradaeasel had me look upon the small cre Day 26 #stradaeasel had me look upon the small creatures in this landscape , all things big and small give joy and take time to see. The Kalahari Scrub Robin and the South African Ground Squirrel have been our pets wherever we have gone and we have enjoyed the day from beginning to the end. Each day continues into the next as time evolves from sunrise to sunset. The night is filled with peace and the light of the full moon accompanies my eyes as the shadows show up the forms in the landscape so easily, so simply and so serenely still.
Day 25 #stradaeasel challenge draw or paint each Day 25 #stradaeasel challenge draw or paint each day for the month of September had me contemplating one of my biggest personal challenges. Sitting at the Mapaya Waterhole in the Botswana desert, my husband and I sat and waited for the Sandgrouse to come in and drink. You hear them first you see. The Red Necked finches were super fast and the Ring necked doves a little slower yet always aware of the skies. How was I to draw? To capture the electricity in the sky, the movement, the macro and micro in the landscape so vast and wide and captivating still. Perhaps these sketches give you an idea of the frenetic movement seen, some detail could only be seen through my binoculars and literally drawn by trusting my hand to do its own motion. I allowed the hand and my eye to work together. At some point I gave thanks for the person who introduced me to the Galaghadi (Kalahari ) and whose birthday it is today @carol_bennett25 , joy always felt in her presence. 😁💕and I love her so much. The other thoughts went today to my father in law - de Vlieg- who changed his address heavenwood yesterday after being ill for some time. Rob de Vlieg inspired the initial love for birds that my husband now continues to grow in, and of course, I benefit from. Today held many emotions on the back of our heritage day. I speak of legacy often. I have spoken of smiles as wide as flights of birds and today I celebrate deep family friendships and family. Today I smiled as I drew and I say thank you 🙏 💕

Day24 #stradaeasel #stradaeaselchallenge The sun shines hot and they seem to just glow and as tiny as they seem they cluster on in cluster communities. So pretty with pink and yellow centres that I feel@I shall love to take these drawings into huge abstractions. They remind me of the alphabet of shape that I teach. They hold the circle and dot family and the three line families too. Oh my, I just love to sit in this wilderness and draw them. These tiny teensy flowers in this desert could be These tiny teensy flowers in this desert could be missed except that I was drawing something else and noticed their vibrancy. Today’s challenge was done early in the morning Day 23 #stradaeasel . If you look at the flower I hold, you will see its shadow more clearly and then understand its size. An artists curiosity perhaps is to look and in the observation record the colours and patterns out in nature. I am always in awe at the detail and how such delicate little flowers can exist in such harsh climate. Today the temperature in the desert reached 36 degrees. We were fortunate to have a rain shower and slight rumbles of a passing storm to cool the landscape down a little. The small creatures we see continue to exist either way, not worrying for things like temperature. Squirrels simply raise their tails for fancy umbrellas ☔️,😃💕
A simple kind of day today as we welcome the day i A simple kind of day today as we welcome the day in this desert. Day 22 #stradaeasel challenge of drawing something live each day is simply a daily practice that is wonderous to do out here where time allows one the luxury to look for long and stay still. Bright blue headed helmeted guinea fowl has been a delight to study. Botswana desert is vast with open skies and wide horizons as far as the eye can stretch.

This morning we awake early to the sound of a lion This morning we awake early to the sound of a lion roar. This drawing has begun and will continue until the gates open and I need to jump into the car to move into the next part of our journey - Botswana Wild camp. I may get lost in creating, making and forget to post to Day 19 #stradaeasel challenge lest I forget. Signal is only accessible at the small shop in Nossop camp. These seeds from the aloes in front burst with promise. Heavy, they lean and eventually lay on the ground. They belong to the flowers that are dotted red in my previous drawing seen yesterday on our drive up the dry Nossop river .

Collecting little “colour patterns from the terrain that I saw made for a wonderful experience all recorded in my drawing. I used Neo colour water colour crayons. Exquisite out here.

Day 12 of #stradaeasel September challenge.I spoke to them about “seeing”. About how everything begins with a single dot, and how the value of the work, and the one who made it, are the same thing. This small figure of a mother and her child is, for me, a picture of how we are held, and pursued, by a love greater than ourselves. Value from within and outside.
